Jonathan David hat-trick sinks Qatar as Canada hammer six in Vancouver
Canada recorded their first-ever World Cup victory in spectacular fashion, with Jonathan David's treble inflicting Qatar's heaviest tournament defeat.

Canada delivered the statement of their World Cup history with a thumping 6-0 victory over Qatar at BC Place in Vancouver. Roared on by 52,497 supporters, the co-hosts claimed their first-ever win at a World Cup finals and condemned Qatar to their heaviest defeat at any tournament.
David's record-setting treble
Jonathan David was the headline act, scoring on 29 minutes, again in first-half stoppage time on 45+3, and once more on 90+2 to complete his hat-trick. In doing so he became the first North American player to score a World Cup hat-trick since Bert Patenaude in 1930, a remarkable piece of history on home soil.
Goals from all over
Cyle Larin had set the tone with the opener on 16 minutes, before Nathan Saliba added a fourth on 64 minutes and Mohamed Manai turned into his own net on 75. The relentless attacking display left Qatar chasing shadows from start to finish.
The win moved Canada level on points at the top of the group with a vastly superior goal difference, setting up a winner-takes-the-group showdown with Switzerland.
